"A CUT ABOVE"
A cutting horse is specially trained to help separate one cow from a herd. The rider uses gentle signals, and the horse responds quickly, showing off its speed and agility. In cutting competitions, judges look for how well the horse controls the cow and how smoothly the rider and horse work together. It’s all about teamwork, quick moves, and sharp instincts.
ARTIST INSPIRATION
This piece of artwork was a challenge from my wife's mother to enter in a show at a fair/rodeo. It finished second in the competition. I got some offers to sell it from some people who love western art. There were also some comments like finally someone who knows what a horse actually looks like, or the eyes are the focus of the drawing. Which is what I always look to capture, because the story is always in the eyes.
AN ARTISTIC JOURNEY
LeRoy Jepson discovered his talent for drawing early in elementary school, feeling a natural connection to art whenever he held a pencil. In 1973, he enrolled in college, where professors recognized his advanced skills and suggested he work independently due to his exceptional ability.
After a long career in the print industry, LeRoy returned to college, where he learned digital art while maintaining a strong connection to traditional drawing methods.
His passion for drawing never faded despite career changes and life’s challenges. He consistently sketched in various settings and eventually began creating graphic pencil art from photographs and designing logos for sports teams. For over 60 years, drawing has remained his enduring passion. and central to his identity as an artist.
